If you haven’t been eating your fruits and veggies, now might be the time to start! Recent studies show that drinking blueberry juice can assist in memory improvement in older adults who may be suffering from age-related memory decline and cognitive (brain) functioning.
Blueberries are not only one of the best sources for antioxidants, they have also been found beneficial in fighting fat and diabetes. But recent studies show that there may be another benefit to drinking some blueberry juice—memory recall and improvement.
The University of Cincinnati, along with the US Department of Agriculture and the Canadian Department of Agriculture, worked together with two groups of volunteers over the age of 70. One group was instructed to drink two to three cups of blueberry juice every day for a period of two months, while the control group drank a beverage placebo that did not contain any blueberry juice.
The results were astounding. The group that consumed the blueberry beverage showed huge strides in their learning and memory tests from when they were first taken before the study was conducted. This is an encouraging study for those looking to preserve their memory through their senior years.
