Improving Memory with Periodic Review

Home > Blog Posts > How to Improve Memory > Memorization Techniques > Improving Memory with Periodic Review

Sometimes, learning new information can be hard to do, especially if you are faced with having to learn or memorize a large amount of information at once. But by utilizing some simple memory recall techniques, this can be a simpler task than you could ever imagine!

A great way to improve your memory is by periodically going over and reviewing the information that you learned in order to help store it in your long-term memory. Reviewing of information is a technique that most of us are taught while we’re in school–a teacher may advise us to review our notes before a chapter test, or even have us review the material we learned throughout the year when taking our year-end finals. In order to truly remember the material, it is important to go over the notes on a regular basis to help seat the information into the long-term storage area of our brains. The more we use something, the more likely we are to remember it and the easier it will be to recall when the information is needed.

Periodic review is an excellent way to start receiving and retaining information into your memory without having to drill it into your head constantly. By looking over the data on a regular basis, the information will then be stored in your long-term memory, which will make recollection faster and your ability to remember the data much easier. In addition to practicing periodic review of the data, you can also use other memorization techniques, such as employing mnemonics and visual aides, to improve your memory retention.
